A Pioneer in the Field of Eating Disorders Treatment
Pauline Powers, M.D., serves as medical director of the Fairwinds eating disorders program. Nationally recognized as an expert in the field of eating disorders, Dr. Powers was the founding president of the Academy for Eating Disorders and was a member of the American Psychiatric Association’s committee on preparing guidelines for the treatment of eating disorders. She also served as president of the National Eating Disorders Association for 2005-06. In May 2000, Dr. Powers was recognized as the Outstanding Clinician by the Academy for Eating Disorders for her dedication and commitment to the field.
Dr. Powers was the driving force in establishing the affiliation between Fairwinds Treatment Center and the University of South Florida’s (USF) College of Heath Sciences Center and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. Through this ongoing relationship with one of the nation’s leading research institutions, Dr. Powers collects and utilizes the latest research and outcome studies to enhance our eating disorders treatment program.
